FAQs

Can I use my insurance to pay for therapy?

In many cases, the answer is yes. I am currently in-network with Aetna and am an out-of-network provider for PPO insurance plans. While session fees are due at the time of service, I am happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your PPO plan for reimbursement. Many of my clients receive a 50-80% reimbursement per session once their out-of-network deductible is met, though I cannot guarantee this outcome as reimbursement depends on your specific plan. I always suggest calling your insurance company prior to beginning therapy to find out how much they will cover per session and to determine how to submit superbills for repayment.

Do you have a sliding scale option?

Yes, absolutely. I have sliding scale options for those who would like to work with me but need some financial assistance to do so. I maintain multiple sliding scale spots in my practice for this purpose. Please feel free to contact me about this option at any time before or during your treatment process if you find your financial situation suddenly changes.

WHen will I start to feel better?

Honestly, it depends. I wish I could tell you that one session will leave you feeling great, but my guess is that it will take longer than that. Sometimes just knowing we are doing something about our struggle starts the process of us feeling better. Other times, sifting through the hard stuff that prompted us to seek therapy can bring up some tough feelings that we have to work through before you start to feel better. What I can tell you is that you don’t have to walk through it alone. I’ll be there with you, even when it’s hard.

How Long Will I Need to be in therapy?

Each person’s therapy process looks a little different. Some people only need a few sessions to reach their particular goals. Others prefer to remain in therapy long-term, or come for awhile and return if needed. The length of your therapy journey is up to you! I’m always happy to discuss my recommendations at any point and I will provide a Good Faith Estimate at the beginning of your care to estimate the total cost of your therapy.

What is your cancellation Policy?

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours before the start of your session. If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee unless we are able to reschedule your appointment for an open slot the same week. No shows are billed at your session rate. This is because I reserve that time specifically for you. Thank you for your understanding!

What services are you unable to provide?

I am unable to provide serious crisis management outside of scheduled sessions as I can’t monitor my phone and emails 24/7. Please know I will always offer you my next available appointment to help you through any crisis that occurs.

In the meantime, if you or your loved one is experiencing life-threatening thoughts, please text 988 or the word “HOME” to 741741 to reach a trained crisis support counselor. In the case of a life threatening event, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

If I am attending therapy online, do I have to be in California at the time of my session?

My license to practice therapy is in the state of California, which means you must physically be in California at the time of your appointment. Thanks for understanding!
